I couldnt resist copying out this wonderful piece of prose for the edification of all the persons who are members of this site. This is of course taken out of context. It is from an essay in the latest volume of Netherlands Yearbook for the History of Art. -- The case of Carlo Helman demonstrates how integration was not achieved by a simple and blind assimilation to the cultural models of the city in which he settled and took root, but how it rather was established in a dialectical interaction that permitted a continuous and lucrative rapport with the native country while developing a plural perspective of identity and diversity in the city of adoption. I like that, plural perspective of identity... if the author can keep writing like this, the author will be the editor of The Art Journal or The Burlington Magazine in no time...
