I decided to delete my last post. If I offended anyone Im sorry. You dont owe me nor anyone else an explanation. My mother raised me with a firm belief that when you know better you do better and I rushed to judgement. I firmly understand that even though people believe in change its not always easy to bring about, especially when you take into account Central Louisianas racial history. Its scary and off putting to do things that arent necessarily popular or easy but when do them anyway cause its important. Right? I remind myself of our roles and what they mean when thinking about demonstrations (particularly in louisiana) and how less than 30 miles from our doorsteps hundreds of men and women were massacred at the Colfax Courthouse simply trying to protect their right to vote, of the Lee St. Riot of 1942 that claimed the lives 18 soldiers destroying a community in the process and how just two parishes over, the largest slave revolt in America ended with no survivors, their heads placed on sticks to serve as warnings. We owe something to these people. Dont we? For the life we live now and for the lives we want our children to lead. Today at our demonstration a woman spoke about the morning shooting at the O.K. on Mac Arthur, the suspect, who was brandishing a gun was disarmed by police taken to the hospital and later custody; she asked, would the same had happened if he were black?. Something to think about.
