I did vote today. But dont ask who I voted for. Thats private. (This wont make sense to you overseas people but it is an issue with at least one candidate). Okay, I voted straight democrat, and in favor of the three proposals in New York. Many of the proposals I had hoped for werent on the ballot: Free espresso on every Manhattan corner. (Not a proposal). Free film processing. (Not a proposal). Mandatory Voting (nope). I would like to see mandatory voting. I think theyve got it in Australia. It helps get people to the polls. If I were king for a day: 1) Online voting (or using your smart phone (theres an app for that). 2) Voting Day is a Paid Holiday 3) Voting is Mandatory (Dont vote, pay a fine). 4) Same voting system for all states (now Im really getting carried away) If your entire states has less people than Staten Island - you dont get any Senators of your own. And finally - speaking of Staten Island - if you vote for anyone who is about to stand trial, or who almost pushed a reporter off the balcony of a govt building - than you forfeit your right to vote in the next election, or must agree to get into a shoving match with said candidate.
