I do not support the NSA spy program, and multiple actors have to - TopicsExpress

I do not support the NSA spy program, and multiple actors have to be held accountable for that. But there is an unstated problem, as people condemn Snowden: Why do we give the keys of the kingdom to low-level service people, civilian staff, and even contractors? First there was Philip Agee, one of the worst traitors that this country ever suffered, and he was a CIA agent. Then we go down to Bradley Manning, an angry gay soldier who gave Wikileaks enough documents to choke a maggot. Then comes Edward Snowden, a high school dropout who was able to secure a good job with a major contractor, and was able to get his hands on the NSA spy program. I see the problem was two-fold. First, our government classifies everything. Then those classifications have to be compromised, with clearances given to low-level operatives, who turn out to be bad hires. Classifications are not exactly rendered worthless, but they are devalued. That old saying that if everyone is special, then no one is special, applies to things and concepts too.
