I dont know if any boaters have ever had someone taking details and photos of their boat sometimes claiming to be from CaRT but we have. I ask CaRT for my logged sighting data every few months and this time there were two missing from our list. Ive checked with CaRT to see what their policies are - here is the reply I’ve received a speedy response from my colleague and am now in a position to reply to your questions: 1. Some of these CaRT data loggers also take photographs of the license data. Can you let me know firstly it it is ever CaRT policy to photograph boats or licenses (and if so, how is this data kept). Photographs are only taken of a boat if a notice is attached to it. The photos are stored within an electronic file on our internal system created only for that boat. 2. Secondly what is your uniform policy for data loggers. All our enforcement staff wear black and white uniform branded with the Canal & River Trust logo. With the great British weather you may also see them in water proof clothing, this is dark blue but also branded with our logo. 3. And thirdly do they carry any official ID? Yes. They always carry their ID and should wear a name badge, you are also very welcome to ask to see it. So the next person saying they work for CaRT and taking close up photos and license data without being able to show id will have their mug shot and details posted here ☺
