I find it a little strange that one must really crank up the gain - TopicsExpress

I find it a little strange that one must really crank up the gain on an input to get a healthy level for shotgun mics in calm volume situations. I have been noticing that when recording voices at regular conversation volume I sometimes need have the trim cranked all the way to the right at 100% in order to record hot enough. I have tried other shotgun mics with the same issue. I went to trew audio, split a mic signal and went into both my Nomad and another rental nomad simultaneously with the same mic. With the same trim settings, both nomads metered precisely the same levels. Thoughts?
