I find the euphoria concerning the recent expose’ on Pallo Jordans fraudulent qualification quite unpalatable. The dude is an astute intellectual theres no doubt about that, hes one of the finest minds this country has ever produced, so to easily dismiss his intellectual prowess and his constructive contribution towards the liberation of this country due to a fraudulent certificate is quite preposterous. I had the same discussion with my hommies on this issue, hommies whom i call street intellectuals our discussion escalated and circumvented from hitherto issue to the issue of morality and ethics but using Pallo Jordans saga as a case study. Mind you none of us are in any possession of any form of qualification, just to be clear, lest we be implicated in some fraudulent activities( just being sarcastic). By cognitively masticating on this issue was our way to grant concessions on the recent debacle at the expense of moral and ethical principles in which our law and constitution has been built upon. South Africas legal framework and moral systems are deontological in other words they are characterised by a focus upon adherence to independent moral rules or duties, in other words it judgerg moral conducts of individuals by examining the nature of actions rather than goals. Deontologists purpot that virtues such as intelligence, perseverence, and patriotism fail to be good without qualification, instead a person has to act out of respect to moral law or duty. I find this ethical theory redudant and obscurant, on the contrary theres another ethical theory called consequentialism that purpots that an action is right if only it brings about the best consequences. Even though Pallos actions may be deemed unethical do you however think that his conduct has jeopardised our country in any way?
