I find this an interesting combination of (my interpretation) natural horsemanship to build a more interactive rapport on the ground and more formal classical in hand work to build feel, accuracy, balance, straightness, and clarity in the meaning of rein/leg aids, for a balanced (mental/emotional/physical) foundation as a basis for a ride in the French tradition of lightness. Watch the expression on this horses face/eye under saddle, and his active participation in a shared plan about a soft jaw, elasticity, and engaged ring of muscles. No hyperflexion, no noseband, this horse is released between light contact & light leg aids. So very refreshing to see a real life, genuinely classical ride reflecting the principles passed on from the old masters. There is nothing too basic about these basics. Love this horses expression when everyone claps at the end - like he just popped his head out of a really good book :) :)
