I found this discussion on Bruce Conforth page o be very informative. I want to remain neutral on the subject but what do others think about this? As a new generation of folk and old-time and roots music come along, what is being lost in translation as compared to the old guard who were there in the 60s and were a part of this cultural revolution? I also think its important to think of both sides of the argument. Yes, people are different and the past is up for interpretation but where is the line so that we as listener know we are hearing the real thing? Also, folk music is the result of people upholding specific traditions and styles of playing and singing. One cannot truly be a folk music unless they know what they are talking about in some way. Im sure will come up again. It has too. Especially as the years go on, the folk singers of the past are getting older and I for one want to be there to take up the torch and continue on and perpetuate the music that has called me! I want to hear a few responses! Im really interested to hear where people are with this! All the best to you all! Dom Flemons The American Songster
