I get asked quite often Veganism is non-violence, so why are you - TopicsExpress

I get asked quite often Veganism is non-violence, so why are you ok with using violence? First of all the definition of Veganism is a simple and clear doctrine, that one should live without exploiting animals as far as is possible and practical. That being said, Im an animal liberation activist first and foremost which means Im Vegan by default because one cant be an animal rights activist while violating their rights. But my answer is simple and clear. I believe that violence is a necessary tactic. Other avenues should first be exhausted. But to say that violence has NO place in animal rights is ludicrous. If we as Vegans, AR activists etc, claim to reject Speciesism then we must be prepared to use any and all means to protect and liberate the innocent. To unilaterally reject violence in animal rights is speciesism. Because most people feel that when human lives are at stake, violence is acceptable to save the innocent humans from someone who plans to harm them. So to take an opposite stance in regards to animals IS Speciesism. So while Im not advocating wonton murder of the uninformed general public, let us all keep in mind that our animal friends need us to fight for them using any and all means at our disposal. Do not mistake your cowardice for the taking of some moral high ground. And stop lecturing AR activists about people not going Vegan because of ALF and Animal Rights Militia tactics, the average non-Vegan doesnt have a clue who they are because the only people who suffer at their hands are the guilty, who suffer justly . People choose to reject Veganism because they dont care and are resisting change.
