I got a call about 2:40 from the secretary at Honeybunches school - TopicsExpress

I got a call about 2:40 from the secretary at Honeybunches school requesting my presence. He trashed the classroom. They expected hed pick it up before coming home. I get to the school to see one of his class aides and the other students at a circle desk in the hallway near the office. I go to his room to find him and the teacher plus a huge mess. Oh wow I said looking at tons of papers, pencils, crayons and more all over the floor. His day sheet says ... Came in to do brushing at recess today. Yay! However, this afternoon he was supposed to use his Ipad to look up info on his volcano and was not on Wikipedia as requested. He did not earn some stars. He became very upset and used the time out space for five minutes. He went back to his desk to look at his star chart. He then dumped out his desk item by item. He destroyed his pencil box, ripped up his journal, tore apart the classroom thesaurus, ripped up many papers and broke many pencils. I think the brushing may be triggering something in him as one other time he had a milder incident after brushing. I am NOT planning on doing it again as his reaction to not earning stars seemed so out of line since he still could of easily earned his incentive... That explains more about what lead to this big huge mess. I got there about 2:45. He begged me to go home. Tears began coming after a while. Please Momma... Please... I am hungry. I answered him many times telling him After you pick up well go home and eat and We have to pick up first. I tried convincing him that his cat and fish miss him. He began telling me how wed stay there all night. The teacher said he was going to be there until 5:00 anyways. ;) I told him wed be really hungry then because the cafeteria is closed. Finally, I decided to ignored him for the most part, sitting in the rocking chair answering him about once a minute telling him my answer was going to stay the same. Soon after I got there, the teacher tried showing him how much he could pick up in one minute. He set the timer and picked up some of the mess. We both tried to convince Honeybunches he could have it picked up in about 5-6 minutes. That did not work. The fussing continued. The more I answered him in the beginning, the more it fueled him. He did kick a chair and motioned as he was going to tip a big desk. I removed a ceramic cup and pencils out of his reach. The aide moved the Ipad that was on a nearby table. Finally at about 3:30 he picked up his mess. It looked overwhelming. He had the idea in his head to pick up half. I told him lets focus on half first. Half turned into picking up the whole thing. I picked up the pencils and pieces of plastic pencil case which I thought would not be safe for him to pick up at the time. He picked up all the papers, which was a lot. The teacher was saying he does not know how the middle school would deal with that situation. Now that were home, he seems a little depressed but in a better mood. The dog ate Honeybunches dinner I was preparing and left on the table when the school called. Yup, Brownie should have a nice full belly of green beans, chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy. Thank Goodness there was more in the fridge or that would have been another meltdown!!
