I got an email last week from someone looking for a practice run - TopicsExpress

I got an email last week from someone looking for a practice run on the PARE course. Now I dont offer actual practice tests (I wish I could), but I got to talking with her more, to get a sense of how prepared she is. One of the things she told me was that people were telling her its not necessary to run a practice, and that its costly. Heres what I had to say about that: I would suggest running a practice test. A practice test may seem like a cost, but think of it this way: if you took practice exams for the RPAT to make sure you were prepared, would you not take a practice test of the PARE to be ready? In my experience, many people underestimate the difficulty of the test and go into it very unprepared. Those who say doing a practice isnt necessary are often the ones who are very fit to begin with and dont have trouble with physical tests in general. During the test, you can expect to hit your maximum heart rate by the third or fourth lap. And by the time you get to the push/pull machine, you will be feeling gassed. Now Im saying all this to scare you, but to give you an idea of what to expect. So I encourage you to run a practice test. At least youll know what to expect and where you have difficulty with the test. --- If you have a chance to run practice, run one, and do it as soon as possible. Better to know where you stand months before your actual test vs. the week before. And if you dont have access to a practice facility, you can always set up your own course. Here are a couple resources to make your own course: Video: youtu.be/pZKWeHTw9h0 Blog post: rlconditioning.blogspot.ca/2014/06/how-to-set-up-your-own-parepopat-course.html
