I got hurt on August 23 1996, When they told me I would never walk again it was awful. I got out of the hospital the first part of October and went to Mamas to stay. That next weekend deer season came in and reality hit, I couldnt hunt anymore. I laid there and cried like a baby that whole weekend with my sweet Mama telling me if I would just calm down she would find a way to fix the problem, yeah right. The next Friday evening she came to my room with my clothes bag and said come on get in the truck. Curiously I got up and rolled my wheelchair outside to see the golf cart loaded? We drove to the farm and she had during the week had guys to build a ramp and widen doors. She put that golf cart at the bottom of that ramp with my gun, helped me inside and said enjoy yourself and go hunting. That next morning I got up at daylight and rolled outside to the golf cart, what an awesome feeling. I eased down to the best spot I could get to and thought I might see one. Sure enough About 70 yards out there stood one. I raised my gun and took the shot, bam right in the neck. Now reality hits again, how am I going to get my deer? I could not move my legs at all and this deer is 70 yards away, up a ditch bank and on the other side of an old fence. Then pride takes over. I climb out of the golf cart onto the ground and crawl up the ditch bank. Crawl to the fence and snatch and pull until I tear a hole in the fence. Now I crawl the rest of the way out to the deer, grab it by one leg and start dragging back. This whole ordeal took me until almost lunch time, but I did it and I was so proud. I got back to the house and called Mama to come get me. She got there and we cried together. Thanks Mama, I love you more than the whole wide world!!!!!
