I got on computers very young. The first one that was in our house was a Vic-20. Then a C64, C128, Amigas, Ataris, IBMs, Other Pc and then finally Apple computers. I was also online early. On BBS like Amnet, Microserv, etc and my first ISP was AOL 3.0 The internet was a very different world then with more little communities on there and then things evolved with IRC, Hotline, Pitbull, Caracho, etc. But still pockets of people here and there that used various platforms based on their own personal choice and preference. The same was true of search engines. People only seem to Google stuff today and I think its a bit of a shame. First of all because were all feeding information about what we do, how and where in this giant machine for it to pass it on to who knows who and secondly because people dont seem to realise that having a wide variety of successfully competing offers will only make us winners in terms of privacy and quality of search. Because Ive been obsessed with money saving and all sorts these days, Ive been using Yahoo via the Nectar bar and have not really struggled to get what I needed. So I propose you have a look around and perhaps try a new habit of using a different search engine for a week or two! And who knows, maybe youll adopt what is a better way for you permanently! Google, Apple and Facebook are all creating ecosystems where they want to gather as much information as possible and I really cant see it as a good thing, specially with the recent news. So check these options out: Yahoo Bing Lycos Hotbot Webcrawler Ask Excite Just try them out and then decide which one you will trial for a week or so. There is more to the world than Google.
