I got this question several times today. So I decided to give this to the public. My Back in Thyme facial. Great for acne, aging, hyper-pigmentation, etc. I am hesitant to share this protocol, as it is very advanced, and may be used as an alternative to a chemical peel. Please use with caution, and note this is only used about 1-2 times a month. In chemical peels, we are dealing with acids and chemicals (both natural and synthetic). Chemical peels are only given by licensed professionals for several reasons. During this process there is a cleanse, often an exfoliation, then one of several methods to strip your skin so that your natural barrier is weakened and the peel can penetrate deeper. Then we apply the peel. This process varies depending on the peel. Typically, your professional will start you on a series, low at first then stronger. If you start with a peel like a Jessner, TCA, or stronger your skin would not be prepared and most likely neither would you. During the peel, you will most likely be asked what your pain level is several times on a scale of 1-10. Depending on the peel, it will either self neutralize, or your professional would neutralize it for you. Then appropriate after care is applied. Home protocols are also given, as it is important to keep your skin hydrated during the weeks to come as your skin sheds. This may feel tight, and depending on the peel, could have significant skin peeling to reveal new skin underneath. This process is beneficial for wrinkles, acne, skin disorders, etc. However, certain conditions, medications etc. may interfere and going through the process of peeling may be inconvenient and the product itself may be toxic. Now, with the Back in Thyme facial it is important to use the highest quality products. I trust doTERRA Essential Oils. Due to their strength, purity and consistent results. This protocol should not be used with other oils as impurities may cause adverse reactions. The oils should be of a quality that is so pure you could ingest, or apply to an open wound. Many oils are of other benefit, but not all are meant to be used in this manner, so quality is important for this service. Some of the reasons I prefer this protocol to chemical peels are results. No lingering tightness to the skin, no down time, skin doesnt look like a snake is shedding all over your face for weeks, you can see results the next morning, not just over several treatments. The skin is not abnormally sensitive to the sun and more. This is great for an all over glow prior to an event (though, just to be safe, make sure you have done this before so you are very familiar with the results your skin will produce. I would never try anything new before a big event such as a wedding) One common property of this facial to that of a chemical peel is that it is hot. My clients on a scale of 1-10 at the height of the peel report being at 7 or 8. This is expected. If you have had peels before, you would be familiar with temporary discomfort, and this process would not shock you. This will self neutralize. Typically this would be a reason a professional would apply. To help reassure you and be on stand by. Since this is not a chemical peel and can be done at home, if you are not a professional or familiar with what to expect, have fractionated coconut oil available to neutralize the pain level in case it is not something you can handle. The burning sensation will start about 4-5 seconds after application, will peak then come down back to zero pain level all in about 1-2 minutes depending on your skin. I like this done in the evening, so that the after care can sit on the skin and absorb over night. 1) Cleanse with doTERRA facial cleanser. Apply to dry skin, circles going up and out. Take your time, get in the folds of your cheeks, around nose, your neck, etc. Rinse with warm water. 2) Exfoliate. If you do not have the reveal facial system or the invigorating scrub, try my fave DIY. 1 Tbs. baking soda, one drop melaleuca and add witch hazel until the consistency of toothpaste. Again apply in circles moving up and outward, paying special attention to areas prone to black heads like nose, chin forehead. Be sure to get the neck and chest as well. This can really turn back the clock! Again rinse with warm water. 3) Cleanse again with doTERRA facial cleanser. Dry. 4) Have a fan ready. Either hand held or floor fan you can stand in front of. In the palm of your hand, add 4 drops Fennel, 1 drop Thyme. Quickly touch your hands together to distribute the oil evenly in your palms then immediately sweep over your face, then neck and chest. Do not get in your eyes. Begin fanning or tapping your skin with your fingers to reduce focus of feeling. This will get hot, and this will neutralize. If you absolutely can not wait for it to go back to a pain level of zero, then do not rinse with water, apply a carrier oil like fractionated coconut oil over the area. If you are dry or sensitive skin type, dilute with fractionated coconut oil. An all over temporary light pink color is common and expected. (In chemical peels it is standard to frost, so a little pink is no problem) 5) When you are back to a zero, Use doTERRA toner on a cotton round and sweep over skin. 6) During the day I prefer the Hydrating cream, and at night or after a service I use about a quarter size of Virgin coconut oil. I like to add a couple drops Vitamin E oil with immortelle or a couple other healing oils. Some to choose from are cedarwood, lavender, geranium, frankincense, helichrysum etc. I usually pair lavender or geranium with one of the other 3. 2-3 drops each. 7) Let it absorb over night, and message me in the morning with your results! Again, this is not intended for every day use. Wait at least 7 days between applications. Many will go 1-2 times a month. Listen to your skin, we are not all built the same. I started this protocol on myself, and then tested on other skin care professionals. Then on clients who were doing series of chemical peels. To date, I have had nothing but rave reviews, and all have preferred the results to their usual chemical peel series.
