I grew up in Iroquois Falls, left at 18 years old. (23 years ago) I fell asleep to the sound of logs falling only to wake up to the same sound. After I moved away it took years for me to get used to falling asleep without that sound. Just the sight of the log pile and the Crane from the back of my house brings back only good memories. Everything about the paper mill (Always Abitibi Price to me) was home to me. Picking my dad up (Clayton Juillette) after a shift when I was old enough to drive or helping mom pack his giant pic-nic basket lunch for work as a little girl or the time my dad went away for 3 whole weeks to Newfounland to learn how to use #8 or being allowed to touch the roll on # 8 as it spun or dad waking me when he got home from a shift surprising me with a new pad of colorful construction paper for crafts, or having to be quiet in the house because dads working nights etc... Growing up I always thought I would work there like my brother, father & grandfather but never did. As a teenager, one by one I saw my friends start working in the grinder room, comparing calloused hands at school... Ill never know the friendships that came with those jobs and today I cry for those people who will never spend another shift together again. I mourn for you Iroquois Falls, and will forever cherish the memories I have. Good luck to you all.
