I had an opportunity to meet and listen to Mr. Bruno Danese in Milan in the spring of 2001. How were the industrial society and mass production understood in Italy before and after that time? Bruno Munari said that an editor of industry was essential to maintain a healthy industrial society and Mr. Danese became an editor by profession. He kept on talking in a detached tone for about three hours about the purpose and ideal of DANESE born under such a situation. He wrapped up his talk by saying, Our generation has been squarely addressing the problems of consumption. Your generation must take account of consumption in the future. His words have stuck with me almost 15 years like a stinging thorn in my mind. Im going to teach 3rd graders marketing at the School of International Cultural Relations of Hokkaido Tokai University starting in April this year. I think that Mr. Danese has guided me for a long time to give me this chance. So, this lecture might as well be called Daneze Memorial. Im thinking that marketing is Personality of Economy.
