I had to post this for all teachers. I have students who are better directors than I ever dreamed of being but this goes way back over 30 years ago. This on I never knew about. This was a time I dreamed I would make a difference one day. Mr. Christoffel, I wanted to wish you a happy birthday and also let you know how much I appreciate you. I have told this story many times. When I was in the 8th grade at Swannanoa I was looking forward to taking shop in High School. One day you were down there “listening” to us 8th graders and you suggested I take choir in 9th grade. Unfortunately it was during the shop class I wanted to take so I had a tough decision. I decided to take choir and my life would be forever changed. To that point the only singing I had done was in our church choirs. I still remember that first day in choir. As we were warming up you broke us into parts and as we were harmonizing I was having a religious experience! I couldn’t believe the beautiful sound I was hearing. I was hooked! (On another note, I never took shop and still to this day struggle to know how to do anything maintenance-wise with my hands. I blame you for that!) I went on to major in music in college (with a combination major in Christian education), and sang in choirs and quartets and ensembles. I was the Minister of Music in a church for four years after college and now some 20 years later my wife and I are leading the music in our church in Franklin, TN. Thank you so much for your influence on me and I hope you have a very happy birthday! Mike
