I have a daily calendar on my desk (that my sweet wife and kids got for me) that I love reading. I look forward to it every morning because I know I will find a reminder of His truths that we can claim. Today’s was a strong reminder and a comforting note for the future at the same time. James 1:2 Consider it pure Joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds I deeply believe that He not only knows every trail we encounter, but He also approves every trial. Every trial is intended for our learning, our strengthening, our development. But do you ever wonder why He allows us to go through particularly difficult or painful ones. What if I told you in every trial He is there, but maybe we just need to openly admit we NEED Him. What if I told you just maybe He was right in front of us the entire time, but we were too busy trying to figure how to fix the problem on our own- when all we needed to do was look up and see He was there waiting with open arms. ? I used to, I used to feel like He had left me alone to deal with them….I couldn’t have been more wrong. I believe, no I know, that He is always there and always has been, I just refused to humble myself and ask for help. This world tells us that asking for help and accepting help is a sign of weakness, but as believers we know it isn’t weakness, it is His promise to us: “…with man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26). Think back to some of the difficult trials you’ve encountered- can you now look back and see where He was present? Can you now look back and see the lesson He showed you? Can you now look back and see how it strengthened your relationship with Him? If you answered no, that’s ok, but I challenge you to look again, only this time ask for Him to show you these things. His strength, His help, His mercy, and even His grace is there…we only need to ask and claim it! We must learn to not rely on our own abilities or our own strengths but instead seek Him in everything we do and in every aspect of our lives. We can’t just pray on Sundays, or before a meal, and walk the remainder of the week thinking we can face this world on our own. Instead we should ask Him to be involved every minute of our lives, we should pray continually (1 Thessalonians 5:17), pray bold prayers, and give every part of our days and lives to Him. P.S. I laughed when I read the definition of trial, how fitting. tri·al/ˈtrī(ə)l/ noun a formal examination of evidence before a judge, and typically before a jury, in order to decide guilt in a case of criminal or civil proceedings. a test of the performance, qualities, or suitability of someone or something. a person, thing, or situation that tests a persons endurance or forbearance. verb test (something, especially a new product) to assess its suitability or performance.
