I have a gas stove with cast grates painted a light gray. They are impossible to keep clean, let alone clean after they have been ignored. So my question, whats the best and easiest way to clean off the cooked on grime? 1) I have tried putting in a bag with a cup of ammonia. It seemed to soften some of the less cooked on stuff. 2) Tried SOS pads. This works pretty good, but lots of elbow grease needed. Cant get off the black cooked on stuff. 3) Ive tried other stove top cleaning products, with no luck. I thought of oven cleaner, but if cleans paint of of cast iron pots, I dont want to risk that. Any ideas for me?
