I have a historical question for the group. I recently attended an exhibit on the silk road. Several of the staff referred to Kazakhstan and many of the other countries in Central Asia as having been Persia. Is this how you understand your own history? I know several cultures (Mongolia for example) laid claim to that same territory at certain times but that is not the same as being a country. The Greeks for example were in Africa but we would never say Africa was at one time Greece. So as Kazakhs how would you respond when someone said your country was once upon a time Persia. What historical facts or cultural evidence would you present to correct the misunderstanding. Thanks, I just felt bothered by this very Euro-Centric understanding of Central Asian culture and history.
