I have been asked by a group of sixth form girls from a girl’s school in South West London if I could help them in creating a piece of creative art for their summer dissertation for their arts and craft course. The remit was they didn’t want to paint a bowl of fruit or a dog sitting next to a fire. I don’t do that neither. It had to be creative art whereby its: a) 3 dimensional as it is to be presented to the school in live mode, b) It’s on a big scale so the 5 girls can work both in isolation and together in a live demo c) It incorporates everyday life and aint too far out there d) Finally, I pushed them on the notion that we need to confuse the audience whereby the art work would be created live with a twist - upside down to confuse the audience So last night, I was working on something to show the girls, it’s my first draft – the quality of the art piece did not matter to me – it was how to accomplish the main objectives. I was doing this on a small scale just to get the feel of what I want. It ain’t no Picasso.. not yet ! I used markers – so the art is never clear and precise but that wasn’t the purpose of the first draft, also my frame for the picture on the wall was way too small as I used a tin disposable tray for my purposes. I used my whiteboard for my own try out first draft However the real thing will be a large 10 foot by 6 ft. hardboard wall, where it is finished with a blanket of carbon in different colours that is peeled off bit by bit by the girls in creating the piece. Have decided that the girls will use this blank wall and create a typical lounge wall in the UK with a picture in a 3d frame that sticks out with the girl in the paining wearing a real flower in her hair, it will also have wallpaper designed around it , and maybe a light switch, skirting on the edges or whatever else goes on any lounge wall. Finally in the live demo - this cardboard wall will be on a swivel and when they have completed it, people in the audience will see that it was created upside down and the money shot is that at the end one of the girls will rotate the wall 180 degrees so it is now standing upright And at that moment – the girls will curtsy to the audience and take in the applause !! https://youtube/watch?v=i2QqLpiGeV8
