I have been composing this epistle in my mind for sometime and today is the day to write it, and if it rings true I will hit post and if it does not I will console myself with the knowledge that the idea of something is often better than the thing itself. Recently I have seen a lot of people post this facebook generated thing that 2014 was a great year. It came up on my feed, I hit the X. 2014 was not a good year by any stretch of the imagination. I have seen worse, but I will be glad to see this year go. It will take with it several people from my world: Tommy Childress, Vern Berry, John Adkins, Bobby Adkins, Mayor Sam Adams, III, Sam Adams, Jr., Bronwyn Smith, Nettie Jones, and my old college buddy Andy Wall who actually died in 2013 but I didnt learn about it until this year. The world is better for all these people having lived in it and colder without them. Plus there is my mother who at the age of 92 decided it was time for her to move to assisted living. That has been quite an adjustment. Some good things that happened: Beth Macy, Author, wrote and published the best book I read all year: Factory Man. It was a cathartic experience reading about the Bassett family and how they shaped and continue to shape my part of the world. Keep up the good work Beth, and John Bassett, III and all their relations. Thank you Kevin and Lisa Hairston for buying my Aent Hazels house. I hope you will have an many enjoyable years there as she did. Thank you, Aldi, for selling good wine at a ridiculously low price. May 2015 be a better year for us all, but especially for those who are mourning, and will continue to mourn. Bless the babies coming this way, may their lives be like Buttah. May the sun shine more and the rain fall at night. May all roads carry us some place we need to be. May we all be nicer to one another. That should do it. https://youtube/watch?v=VW7evu7SJBA
