I have decided to make my 1959 Coronado’s roof power. We are testing the roof actuator before we install it. The actuator moves 30” and has 150 lbs of force. We are going to mount it under the deck on the port side to the rear of the roof. The bracket will come up between the roof and the rail and will attach to the rail similar to how the roof attaches to the rail. We are going to machine stainless steel to look like the original brackets but wider so we can use 2 bolts through the rail. This will prevent movement of the bracket going forward and backwards. We will weld a 1/4” piece of stainless steel to the mounting bracket of the roof rod which will placed through the deck and attach to the actuator. Unless you look hard, you won’t see the bracket since it will be between the roof and the rail. Since the actuator is 30” and we only need about 29”, we will be using micro switches to limit the travel. The actuator also has small remotes which will allow the roof to be opened and closed from outside the Coronado. The actuator can hold the roof open, closed or any position in between. No latching will be used.
