I have just watched the video of Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiagos - TopicsExpress

I have just watched the video of Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiagos speech delivered before the Philippine Psychiatric Association on Tuesday afternoon, January 21, at the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel, during their national convention. It was amazing how she was able to make it sound very light (that resounding laughter from the bunch of her mental health specialists audience was audible in the video) in spite of the gravity of its content. The speech tackled much of the Philippine political reality where corrupt officials rule, and flawed and inept actions are rampant. It just saddens me, however, that whenever we hear of what is really happening in our nation, brought about by our intellectually and mentally incapacitated leaders, we cant do anything but take just the slapstick out of it and laugh, out loud, and shrug it off, after. Proof? This coming 2016 elections, the same surnames will top surveys, win the polls and take those coveted seats. After all that has happened: The Pork barrel scam, the Yolanda Tragedy, the Zamboanga Crisis, and a whole lot more, I guess we could say its all worth it if theres lesson learned. Unfortunately, the mistakes we committed in the past are the same which we are about to commit. If only I could, I would remove the elections in our constitution. It is more of a loss than gain for our nation, anyway. Good for advertizing agencies. Its their peak season. But our economic gain from it will never compensate the problem it poses on which not only us will suffer from, but our childrens children, too. The whole electoral process in our country has just become a sarswela after all. And its repetitive and predictable outcomes is nonetheless dragging. We are kidding ourselves when we assert our constitutional right to suffrage and then waste it eventually by voting candidates without even researching on their background. We solely base on what we hear and watch from ads thats why they spend so much on it. Im sorry for myself that I am in the verge of losing hope for our nation. But what keeps me holding on is the compassion and my responsibility for the next generation. What a big burden we have on our shoulders, my fellow in-service and pre-service teachers. And yet 16,000 pesos is all that the government sees we deserve as compensation. :3
