I have lots of respect for Classical Musicians - they often play at a very high level, and they often perceive beauty that I am not particularly enamored with or open to (the things that make my eyes light up are different) but I HATE the ones who are condescending and narrow-minded and hegemonic - as if its some sort of dogmatic religion - the same ones who put you in a box & talk to you as if youre a stereotype - with condescending pity & internalized arrogance. Ive been lucky - MOST of the classical players I know & get to play with arent like that The things that make Cello valuable to me are learning rock/metal tunes & playing folk music & musicals & other weirdness & making things up & having my own style - the same way somebody like Zoe Keating does Lifes been pretty complicated lately, and Ive had some serious constraining factors that have caused me to be less technically in shape than I could be - so yes, its time for me to fix that now, but Im gonna do it MY WAY - not by practicing a bunch of Sonatas so I can do the same things that everyone else can. Thats not WHY I play, and its great to have the clarification of what Im even doing with this Cello thing, and what my purpose is. So Rant Over, Im gonna get back to playing/recording music & creating Art - My art!!
