I have no doubt at all that they are up too no good and want to make money off of every single one of there users... But lets look at some of the features the app offers and see why it may need these permissions.. (I do not use messenger I have a cydia app that disables the need for messenger) Phone call permission - Messenger has a phone call feature, you can make and receive phone calls via the messenger app to any mobile phone or Facebook user... Text permission - Messenger has a text feature, you can text any mobile phone for free (minus data) on the app... Cam permission - Messenger allows you to snap a picture or 90 sec video clip and send it as a message... Location permission - messenger allows you to attach your location to any message you like via the blue arrow in the subject field... Contact permission - Facebook asks to add your contacts to the messenger app and lets you edit or remove contacts on the app it self rather then having to go to the native app... Record audio permission - messenger has a feature that instead of typing you can send a voice message to your contact... So in reality wouldent messenger need these permissions in order for you too use any of these key features?? And where in the TOS does it say they can access it anytime?? On my iphone it allows me to go into settings>privacy and disable any of these features/permissions manually... Does android offer the same privacy protection? I am in no way saying Facebook is not using these permissions to invade privacy, or not making money by selling your info it collects... Facebook has been doing that for years, without these permissions I have a extension on Firefox that blocks ad agencys from collecting my info and selling it, Facebook always has at least 20 things blocked with every new click on the site...
