I have noticed that the most frequently asked question on this forum from either relaxed or natural hair babes is What cream can I use to make your hair grow? Everybodys hair grows but at different rates. The bottom line is,your hair is growing but retaining length is another thing. What you do to retain that length is important. For relaxed hair, stretching your relaxer,i.e retouching your hair only 2-3 times a year can help promote growth but you also have to take good care of it. Since I went natural, there are a few things Ive learned about fast hair growth. 1. Water- in and out. When you moisturize your hair with water first, youve started on the right track. If your body is dehydrated, so will your hair. As much as youre hydrating your hair with water, also keep it hydrated from the inside by drinking enough water everyday. 2. Moisturize- keep your hair moisturized using a good water-based moisturizer, making sure that the first ingredient listed on the product is water. Stay away from products with mineral oils. And remember that oils are not moisturizers. Which brings me to… 3. Sealing with oils like coconut oil, jojoba oil, castor oil etc these oils should be used after you have applied your moisturizer to lock in that moisture. 4. Always keep your scalp as clean as you possibly can. Never leave your hair dirty for long periods of time. Use a sulphate free shampoo or I use Ose Dudu(not Dudu Osun,I use the one from the market) to cleanse your scalp and hair once or twice(if you have a lot of product in your hair) a week. 4. Do weekly deep conditioning and use a leave in conditioner. 5. Reduce the amount of heat you use on your hair or stay away from heat, completely. And if you use heat,ALWAYS use a heat protectant. 6. Hot oil treatments are a must. 7. Trim your hair when you start noticing split ends or when your ends just look really bad. 8. Detangle/comb your hair when wet to avoid tearing and damaging your hair strands. I mostly finger detangle and only comb when I cant avoid it. 9. Protective styles, this is so that your ends are put away to protect them, especially for those with shoulder length hair or longer because when you wear your hair out,it can get caught in the fabric of clothes which can damage your ends. 10. Do cover up your hair at night with a silk or satin scarf or sleep with a satin pillow. And lastly, have patience and enjoy your hair journey. Hope this helps.
