I hope everyone is having a great time today. To add to the fun thought I would share a story of my time at the shelter. To anyone who doesnt know me, my name is Christine and I recently returned home after a full year of volunteering at NLWS. During my time there I got the incredible honour of naming one of the bears that came in this Spring. You all now know him as Kuma, but what you might not know is that there is a story behind his name and why it is so important to me. Let me introduce you all to my very own Kuma. He is my black bear cuddly toy that always sits on my desk. Almost 2 years ago I decided that I wanted to take some time out from studying and work with animals. I had no plan, and I didnt know where I wanted to go but animals have always been my passion. During one of my endless Google searches for internships or volunteer positions I looked up from my computer screen and saw Kuma sitting there, right next to my laptop and I thought about how great it would be to work with bears and the rest, as they say, is history. I found NLWS and they accepted me and if it werent for Kuma, I wouldnt have just had the most amazing year of my life. So from myself, Kuma and now the real life Kuma we want to thank each and every one of you for participating and donating and lets hope we can make this the best fun(d)raiser yet!
