I hope for a bipartisan repudiation of what President Obama is - TopicsExpress

I hope for a bipartisan repudiation of what President Obama is trying to do with his immigration actions. A president who arbitrarily changes a law he doesnt like undermines our Constitution... Article one, section eight gives overall immigration policy to Congress. Further, the President is to faithfully execute the laws passed. In 1973 we had Republican leaders, like Barry Goldwater, tell Nixon he lacked support from his own party. Wed like to see Democratic statesmen rise up who look past short-term advantages, but see the long-term damage that is being done. I, too, think we need some changes to our immigration policy, but it needs to be done through Congress, and it will involve compromise... compromise that the President wont totally agree on. He struggles to make compromises. Hes no Bill Clinton who was able to meet Newt Gingrich half way on many issues. My sense is the majority of Americans are willing to reform immigration policy, but it will have to include a more secure southern border. We have a system of checks and balances that was designed, according to James Madison, to have ambition counter ambition. Jefferson, who feared an energetic federal government, and Madison wanted a legislature that consisted of both a Senate and a House, because they knew it would be harder to get legislation passed. By doing this, the legislature would have to respect minority concerns to pass major laws. The President needs to continue working with Congress to find the right compromises to get the support needed. Right now he doesnt have that support in Congress, nor by the voters. The wrong answer is an executive order that violates the law and undermines our Constitution.
