I hope you will read this… 150 miles! 150 miles! 150 miles! That’s how far I will ride on my bike to do my part to eradicate cancer. For you…for me…for all of us. Cancer has ravaged my family. In 1988 my son, Nick, was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. After 5 surgeries by the skillful surgeons at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and 13 months of chemotherapy, his cancer was cured. On the night when he graduated from high school in June 2006, my sister, Laura was flown by helicopter to the University of Michigan Hospital to learn that she, too, had a malignant brain tumor. She and her doctors and nurses fought mightily for 6 months but she succumbed to her cancer on Christmas Day in 2006. On January 30, 2014, my husband, Steve, was diagnosed with Lymphoma. He completed his treatment on June 10th and is a survivor! I would be remiss if I didn’t add my brother-in-law, Mac, my cousin, Lindsay, my father-in-law, Cliff, my aunt Marlene, my aunt Mary, my grandfather, Vincent, my uncle Gary, my uncle Larry, my uncle Paul, and my Grandma Mae to this list of cancer ridden family members. This list goes on and on. Some are survivors while others were not so fortunate. Without the millions of dollars that have already been invested in cancer research by so many talented physicians and scientists, none of these cancer victims would have survived. We need to continue to pound this disease with all the research expertise and innovative clinical trials possible until no more family members will have to be sick or die. It takes money to cure cancer and I hope that you will support this battle to eradicate cancer by donating to the Ride to Conquer Cancer. Steve spent many hours this winter and spring receiving his treatment at the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania. The Abramson Cancer Center is among the leading cancer research and treatment facilities in the world. The researchers are committed to finding a cure for all cancers and are making great strides to do so. The doctors and nurses provide patients with the newest and most innovative treatments possible and do all that they can to make the treatment tolerable. I want to give back to the medical community to say thanks for all that they have done for my family and for what their scientific contributions will do for all of us in the future. I want to thank the doctors and nurses for their fine care of my family and yours. By riding my bike for 150 miles in the Ride to Conquer Cancer, I hope to raise at least $5000 this summer. I hope you will support my effort by pledging whatever you can. Simply follow the link to my personal web page ph14.ridetovictory.org/goto/deann2014 and make your contribution by credit card or download a donation form and mail it directly to the address on the form. Either way my ride gets credited with the fundraising and we all win by supporting further research and patient care at the Abramson Cancer Center. Please consider making a contribution and feel free to share this with all of your Facebook friends! Thank you very much!
