I just cant put on weight! I just dont seem to be gaining! No - TopicsExpress

I just cant put on weight! I just dont seem to be gaining! No matter what I eat, I just cant put on weight! I hear these statements all the time and Ive been guilty myself of saying them on a number of occasions. However, if you break it down, if you consume more calories than your body needs for maintenance, then you will gain weight; conversely, if you consume less calories than your body needs each day for maintenance, then you will lose weight. It really is that straightforward. Therefore, if you consume a sufficient amount of good quality calories and protein, then you WILL gain muscular bodyweight, provided you are in hard training. Its very simple in concept, but sometimes very hard in application. Nevertheless, the process of gaining muscular weight can seem perilous because it is never linear, but seems to happen in fits and starts with no apparent explanation. If you are serious about gaining, then you have to view eating as your job, like training. Yes, it can be extremely difficult sometimes to consume enough calories every single day to gain, but you have to view it as a gradual progression, much like with training. When you started out, you probably couldnt squat 60kg, now you might be able to do 2 and a half to three times that amount. That progress didnt happen overnight and you have to gradually and intelligently coax the body along to reach new levels. Its the same sort of principle with diet. You cant expect to go from consuming 2000 shitty calories a day (for example) to 5,500 quality calories each day without either being sick or spending most of the time in the bathroom! Therefore, you have to SLOWLY increase your calories over a period of months and as the body grows, its requirement for calories will also increase. Bottom line is that to create this anabolic environment, the buck stops with you and is a statement of how much you are really serious about getting bigger. If not, thats fine too, just dont moan about not being able to put on weight! Ha! Ha!
