I just made up Moms Agenda for his IEP meeting in the morning. Hahaha. I do this for all our meetings and have done it for years. I tell the IEP Chairperson it helps use their time more efficiently. ;) On the agenda for this one are Transportation reimbursement request, progress updates, middle school observations, concerns about transitions to middle school (Including the need for a 1:1 aide next year, teacher/aide need for restraint training, requesting meeting at end of this school year with current IEP team and personnel from the middle school to include the Dean, counselor, Adjustment Counselor, school psych and his new teacher), transitions between classes (Need fewest possible especially in the beginning) and his sensory issues in crowded rooms for which he will need accommodations for next year. Its never too early to plan for next year. The old SpEd Director turned advocate went to observe Honeybunches this morning. Guess who had a good morning lol? He said hes confident that the program at his current school is appropriate for him and that hell have a good year. Comparing data from this year and last year at the same time, things arent radically different. It seems he needs a month to get adjusted he said. He suggested getting a full time 1:1 aide for next year (Especially where hes going from 3 staff working with 2-3 children to 1 staff working with 3/6 depending on what time of day it is). Im going to bring that up at the meeting tomorrow. Its never too early is the theme of this post I guess... Wish me luck! Tomorrow is my birthday which will go like this: Bring Honeybunches to school... Go to his IEP meeting.... Walk home or wait downtown for DH who has a foot dr. appointment at the same time as the meeting... Come home to do some cleaning... Pick up Honeybunches because its a half-day... Go to my own doctors appointment where Ill meet my new doc... Yup, what a fun birthday lol. Tis the life!
