I just read a tragic, heart-wrenching story on a blog recently of someone who suffered terrible conditions in life. It made me feel sorry for the poor victim. Until I reminded myself of the fact that I know the author and what they wrote was part embellished and part fabricated. The blogosphere is so powerful because anyone can say anything and there is virtually no way to verify what is said. People can be slandered, lives can be shattered. Please dont automatically believe every sad story you hear, there is often another side. Some people use tragic stories to gain sympathy and make money. Ive lived through some terrible things in my life, but you will seldom hear me speak of them. I dont want my tragedy to define me or be my identity. Dont be unduly skeptical, but be wary of people who make a career of being a victim. Who are they pointing people to? Themselves or Christ?
