I just read some Research about Melanoma & it bothered me... So Here I go lol..*This just proves that ANYONE, no matter who you are can Get Melanoma (like me with skin that tans easily & dark Brown eyes) So Im not a Typical Melanoma Statistic. I just wanted to REMIND Everyone to Do your Monthly Skin Check (just like we are told to do Monthly Breast Exams). Heres a statistic I found interesting: People Most at risk for Melanoma are people with fair skin - in particular, those with skin which always burns and never tans, red or blond hair, green or blue eyes. Melanoma is more uncommon in darker-skinned people, as they have more protective Melanin in their skin. Found on: patient.co.us. I HONESTLY HAVE HAD PEOPLE I HAVE KNOWN MY ENTIRE LIFE THAT HAVE ABUSED THE SUN & TANNING BEDS & PEOPLE THAT HAVE NOT. BUT I HAVE ONLY KNOWN OF 2 PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD MELANOMA & THESE 2 PEOPLE ARE MEN & NEVER ABUSED THE SUN OR WENT TO TANNING BEDS. I GUESS IM SAYING THIS, BECAUSE SO MANY PEOPLE ARE UNEDUCATED ABOUT MELANOMA & JUST ASSUME ITS ONLY FROM TANNING ABUSE. SO; PLEASE GET THAT ODD DARK FRECKLE CHECKED YOU HAVE! (even if u always wore sunblock or never liked the sun much) IT MAY BE THIS DEADLY FORM OF SKIN CANCER CALLED MELANOMA & IT DOES NOT CARE IF YOU ARE A TYPICAL STATISTIC FOR SKIN CANCER OR NOT. My Dr. told me she would take off this odd looking freckle if I REALLY wanted her to, but it really didnt look like Typical Melanoma. Guess what! I was the RIGHT one here! It was Melanoma, I had to have surgically removed & my skin stretched back over the 4-5 inch Hole/Gap it left in my leg :( & my other Melanoma that was surgically removed years ago did Not look anything like the others i have had :/ So YOU do KNOW your Skin BEST! Please do your Monthly skin check. It may just save your life
