I just saw a new documentary at the academy cinema in Auckland , think its running other places, about the Japanese animation director Takahata, hes one of two directors of Ghibli Studios( along with Miyazaki). The film is about his work on The Tale of Princess Kaguya, which was played at the recent film festival and enthrallingly beautiful. It is one of the most fascinating studies of a collective, creative process I have ever seen. He is the director, guide but utterly reliant on the gifts of others and completely lifting them past their own limits. You see this, feel his unswerving exploration and gratitude to others. If everyone thinks its their film it will be the best film it can be. So impressive and inspiring. See it and the animation, even if you are a you dont watch cartoons grinch.
