I just saw a picture of a friend I went to high school this a.m. on FB, of her with her sweet grandmother. It blessed my heart. It made me miss my maw maw Alice. Shes been gone about thirtt and it also made me think about the things that I got from her the years, recipes, thoughts, poems she clipped, stories, memories, her time, etc. and it made me think about when she passed away and they gave me her purse. Inside of her purse I found some special things that Ive still got today.... a little glass medicine bottle, the old kind that pills came in with just a snap on lid before child proof lids. It was filled with all kinds of old buttons. Another little bottle had needles. A little box held a thimble and needle threader, more buttons, some thread, and needle threader. She had a little change and the little candies she always had for the kids. But the most valuable thing of all to me were little sheets of folded papers that contained her favorite recipes, written in pencil, in her hand writing. English pea salad, old fashioned tea cakes, Delicious salad, which was just Watergate salad but she called it delicious salad and several others. They are treasures of hers and treasured by me to this day. Did you ever think about what they will find in your purse or computer even, when you pass away? My purse is full of receipts from remodeling and shopping, Kleenexes, sweet n low packs and wappers from the kids so we dont litter. And like maw maw...some change and candies for the kids. I miss my Maw maw Alice.
