I *know* Im just a feeble-minded female (ie impractical, lacking applicable experience, etc.) but I couldnt help thinking that yesterday and todays construction efforts -- dividing the barn, running gates from Cheviots paddock to the barn, dividing the doorway into the barn, having two water tanks drawing electricity, making two Pyr-only areas instead of being already set with the existing one, placing two self feeders, etc. etc. -- all would be unnecessary if Ron would agree to take his replacement ewes and their baby daddy back to his place and bring his replacements from this years lambs here. Then, with no ugly fine wool ram to make segregating the little Cheviot lambs necessary, all the lambs could run together. Drink together. Eat together. And the pregnant ewes, who will require more feed, would be where that feed is kept, rather than requiring hay and, later, grain to be hauled here from Rons home farm. Since Ron puts his breeding groups all together after the rams have a chance to cover their ewes during the first cycle or two, theres no reason I can see to put off taking the breeding group now here back home. And bringing lambs here where they will stay for a year. What am I missing? Why is my idea so impossible? After two days doing all this work to give LGDs adequate shelter, food, and water in a totally sheep-free area in *both* flock groups halves of the barn, all I know is that I am sore and tired and cold. And moving one group of sheep in a trailer load from Rons to here, then loading the bred group from here to make the return journey, would have been easier and taken far, far less time. Im grateful for the help. I am. Just not sure why my idea that would have made all the labor unnecessary was not even worth considering....
