I know no one wants to see their taxes go up and Ill be the first - TopicsExpress

I know no one wants to see their taxes go up and Ill be the first one to say that we should cut taxes where we can (especially in our town taxes). However i strongly believe that our children and schools should not suffer to save a few dollars. The way i read Joseph Rands letter was that for a relatively small investment we can maintain our property values. Based on my table below the average taxes in Rockland are approximately $12,388. I searched for houses between $430k - $450k (trying to get as close to the $440k as possible). That being said raising our taxes slightly will still keep Clarkstown very competitive in regards attracting potential buyers when comparing taxes keeping Clarkstown $1,944 below the average. I will start off by saying im no financial analysts but lets begin with taking the $28M to fix all the schools. If a $6.5M bond over 15 years costs $26/year than $28/$6.5=4.3. so lets multiply 4.3x$26=111.8. What im getting at is for a little over $100 a year (basically less than $10 per month) we can have all of our schools fixed, maintain our excellent reputation, attract young families to the area and still be more than $1800 below the average property tax. Location Property Tax Pearl River $9,653 Congers $9,985+$26=$10,011 New City $10,418+$26=$10,444 Suffern $13,529 Stony Point $13,818 Nanuet $14,525 Nyack $14,793 Average $12,388
