I know this sounds odd but its not. I was reading an article in the newspaper with the heading, Is Plymouth one of the most haunted cities. True story. When I first moved into (whats now) our home, back in 2001. Ex naval married patch where the MOD were selling off one of their estates to a private firm to do up and then flog. It was exciting as everyone was allocated a number (I was 81) I think? Anyway you had two choices and anyone in front of you could swap their choices and take yours. This occurred on my 1st choice but luckily not my second. Signed the deeds and being single later thought, What have I done? Nervous, as unlike ordinary contracts where you obtain a mortgage and then find a home... Here, you buy a home and then find a mortgage within three months. Things progressed and had been accepted for a mortgage and so it was key pickup and move in day. The house hadnt been lived in for a few years, but it was mine - far better than living accommodation at HMS Raleigh, although the commute to work wasnt as ideal. After a week or so, whenever I ventured into the kitchen - although the feeling began in the dining room, there seemed to be a draft/ static build up coming from somewhere... But there was no wind nor anything plastic overhead? Thinking no more of it, this feeling continued whenever I ventured to the kitchen. The house seemed empty. Maybe because it had three bedrooms and only one occupier... Indeed, I used to sleep in the small room on a single bed with the landing light on for company. Things changed and a mate was selling a double pine framed bed. So I purchased it and now moved to the middle bedroom. Things were great until one Sunday morning, when lying face down in bed... I couldnt awake. I also felt as though I couldnt breathe. I knew where my body was and what position I was lying, but couldnt open my eyes and the reason I wanted to awake was because something was poking/ prodding me in the kidney. I was living on my own with no pets and What the funk is happening? Eventually came to and nothing was there! That spooked me - so much so that I took to sleeping on the couch with the TV on at night. Then like most nights, Id settle down and close the living room door before bedding down for the night. This was my new routine, luckily had leather to sleep on.. Until one night something awake me; a sound or something and I discovered the lounge door fully open? I looked around the room to adjust and compose myself and then a man stood in the hallway making direct eye contact with me! He was around his early 50s and had dark hair and a beard. I actually thought I was being burgled as this guy was solid and I could see the contours and light from the TV shine off him. I gasped and was taken back with shock. Then he moved from the hallway, as if going to the dining room and out via the back door. I followed and was expecting to see him in the kitchen. No one there and the back door was locked with the key in the barrel? Checking the front door, it too was locked and no windows were open..... Speedily got out the house and told some friends who must have thought I was away with the fairies. Eventually sought help and guidance from the Priest at St Budeauxs church who I think believed me... As the advice he gave helped tremendously and touch wood I havent encountered nor hope to encounter anything like that again.
