I like this comment: If a culture is so fragile that it is - TopicsExpress

I like this comment: If a culture is so fragile that it is threatened by a foreign faith, it will probably collapse at some point anyway. There is an obvious hypocrisy of living Westernized lives while demonstrating against Western influence. There is an obvious hypocrisy of the Communist Party in promoting Chinese festivals, language and culture in European and US cities, while promoting resistance to western culture back in China. China may learn much from its neighbor India which was occupied by Muslim and Christian colonizers for hundreds of years. Rather than disappear, Indian culture remains as strong as ever and has in fact been enriched by the infusion of ideas, languages, architecture, religions, foods, etc from all of the previous occupiers. As someone once wrote, the Great Wall was not built to keep people out, but to keep the people in. Insulating themselves from the rest of the world will hardly be in the interests of the Chinese, and Im glad to see that there are some sensible voices like that of Yao Bo - ... staying true to yourself... wise words.
