I like to quote scriptures from The Bible but that is not the only - TopicsExpress

I like to quote scriptures from The Bible but that is not the only place I find the word of God. In my study of wanting to know where this bible came from I discovered it wasnt the little book we have today all bound together in its neat little package (and I found it quiet frightening to learn who was behind it all). It was not written all nice and neat in the order its in, nor was it written in the language its found in...it was found with many other scriptures, some older than the books of todays bible, but for whatever reason they didnt all make the cut. Also some of the interpretation of the words were lost in translation. In my Kabbalah classes I learned to hear the scriptures, past the words and the translations. This led to me finding the word of god in other teachings... Even some not written in some long forgotten time. God is still talking to us today. I have found them in teachings from the natives, to Hindu to Islamic. Here is one I love from Yoga: the central principle of yoga practice: the mind is transformed only by direct, systematic, and careful personal investigation of experience. Not by concepts about reality. Not by metaphysical constructs. Alas, there is no way to understand the afflicted mind-state of craving, aversion, and delusion without exploring our OWN immediate experience of them. There is good news: for any of us willing to pay attention, we do not have to search far afield for a confrontation with these states. They are with us practically every moment of life.
