I like to think of inspiration as either free, or applied. When I - TopicsExpress

I like to think of inspiration as either free, or applied. When I am working, I get all sorts of ideas that excite more work, they are often very relevant to my process and constructive. They can range from visionary realizations to notions, or just decisions. All of them have a momentum to them, and keep my productivity inspired. When I am not working, life is in the way of me getting into the studio, I am still full of ideas, but they tend to jump around a lot, less grounded... I can get visionary ideas, that look like a completely different artist may have created them every day. I question my direction. I synthesize my ideas with others, I look at the larger whole a lot more. Usually it is fun and exciting, but also depressing because so much self doubt and doubt about my direction come into the mix. Both the free and applied are constructive and vital to the process. But, in order to get anything accomplished, there needs to be an internal clock ticking that is keeping track of how long Ive been away from my paints. I can only dally for so long, before its time to get back to work. As an old painter friend of mine Steve Dietle used to say, paintings dont paint themselves.
