"I live in the Managerial Age in a world of Admin. The greatest - TopicsExpress

"I live in the Managerial Age in a world of Admin. The greatest evil is not now done in those sordid dens of crime that Dickens loved to paint. It is not done even in concentration camps and labour camps. In those we see its final result. "But it is conceived and ordered (moved, seconded, carried and minuted) in clean, carpeted, warmed and well-lighted offices, by quiet men with white collars and cut fingernails and smooth shaven cheeks who do not need to raise their voices." CS Lewis. This is certainly my experience of management. He could also have added that managers are never called to account for what they did. People have their health ruined, they go insane, and occasionally people die because of things that managers do, and the best that anyone can hope is that the policy in HR will change, in order to stop it happening again. The person responsible is never punished. bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-23462290
