I love this story! (Thank you for sharing, Erica!) We have been reading the book Have you Filled a Bucket Today with our kids and they have really loved it and adopted that terminology for things that make them feel happy and sad. Last night we were laying in bed reading and my son noticed a hang nail. Daddy brought the clippers in their closed position. My 5 year old son took the clippers and asked if he could do it himself. I said he could. He took the clippers and kept trying to figure out how to get them into the position where he could clip and failing. My hands were itching to reach out to help him, especially since it was actually lights out time and our story was stalled while this was happening. But I sat patiently and he kept trying and trying and finally got the clippers open the right way and then spent the next 10 minutes clipping at his own nails. In the middle of it he looked up at me with the biggest smile and said, mommy, thanks for filling my bucket. I didnt even do anything. It was my absence of action that made him feel so good and proud of himself. I need to work on doing this more. Thank you.
