I made a couple Kalamazoo ones, all of the Crystal ones, and some - TopicsExpress

I made a couple Kalamazoo ones, all of the Crystal ones, and some at Butler. I also made the last one at Ionia, but left early. The Crystal shows were totally over the top, with so many cars, and so much action on and off the track. I used to call it Woodstock on wheels. My memories range from good clean fun to serious injury. (I busted ribs and sternum one year when a 4 wheeler plowed into a car we were changing the rear end on, knocking the rear end off of the jackstands.) I remember one year it rained so much that my car sunk up to the floorpan in the muck in the camping area. I remember two consecutive years of rain and 5somethingmondaymorning street stock features. (The guys in those races referred to themselves as members of the Dick Beebe Breakfast Club forever after). I remember Rons (Cant remember his last name, but he used to be a columnist for MARC times) fire and brimstone church services. I remember my tent getting dragged about 50 feet by a street stock with no brakes. I remember guys dragging volkswagen hoods through the mud with ropes in Chariot races Frontstretch bowling, the three car flip in the unwinged sprints, Tom Patterson going into the lake, Tom Patterson flipping into the trucks, Gary Fedewa running four classes one year, and lots of other memories. I remember making lots of new friends over the years, and getting stung by a lot of bees. I remember a group of inebriated modified drivers singing We drive in the I.M.C.A. to the tune of a certain Village People song. I remember a guy running out on to the track during a race. I remember watching a bumper fly off the backstretch, and go right through the windshield of a new car. I remember about 20 people (Mostly drunk) trying to push a motor home out of a mud puddle while the driver (Also probably drunk) floored the gas and held it there. Those were the days! Preparations for the D.C. would usually involve putting plastic seat covers in the car, and laying dropcloths from the front door of the house to the bathroom, so I could just walk in to the shower and get the dust off. I eventually learned to hose off the weekends cloths in the yard before throwing them in the washer. (Saved money on washer repairs) Dave (Capn Crunch) 0 +-
