I must apologize to the Class of 2015 This past week an individual submitted a letter on behalf of a group of her friends in response to Bud Johnson’s letter the previous week. She asked if she could have it signed from the Class of 2015. Without giving the situation enough thought, I responded by granting her that option. In hindsight, it was a poor decision on my part. I should have included the author’s name and not grouped the entire Class of 2015 in with the letter. I would like to apologize to any Class of 2105 members who in no way supported this letter. I also should note that this decision was not fair to Bud Johnson, who in fact did sign his name to his original letter. Bud, I apologize to you as well. It was not my intent to protect the author of this letter. In fact, I will freely acknowledge her name to anyone who would like to know who submitted the letter if they should call or stop me on the street. The letter was presented to me as being from several individuals in the Class of 2105. She would have signed her name and stated to me as such. It is not unprecedented on our part to allow groups of individuals to sign a letter in this fashion. But 99% of the time the letter is stating something positive. For example, we have let the Lion’s Club thank the public for a successful blood drive. We have also had groups support a candidate and let them sign the letter in that fashion. There is a saying that reflects closely on my decision concerning this letter, “hindsight is 20-20”. If you are in this business long enough, or any business for that matter, decisions get made that are regretful or incorrect. But I sure hope the positive ones we make far outweigh the negative.
