I need some advice. Im a first time chicken owner and was given 24 hens that were already 2 years old this past May. Most of them were missing feathers like they were still molting which I thought was odd in May. I treated them for lice/mites, upped their protein, and am free ranging them periodically. They all still look terrible 3 months later and now 2 have dropped over dead and it looks like 2 more are going to die in the next few days. I cant find anything wrong with them, poops look normal, no respiratory issues. I only get between 5-9 eggs/day out of 22 chickens now. Most of them do have nasty butts though. Any ideas? Are there eggs safe? Should we just butcher them all? If they are sick are they safe to eat? Im at such a loss. $16/week in feed is getting expensive for only 5-9 eggs a day :(
