I need to write a screen play based on some of the hardships my Korean mother went through in her life as a kid in Korea and then an immigrant. Some of it has laughter but shes had soooo many hardships. One snippet is that when my mother was 9 years old, she was sent away to work as a nanny in a another home. My grandfather who was wealthy at some point, lost everything. So my mother, who was sent away, ran away from that house to go home. When she showed up at the doorstep, instead of getting a welcome home greeting, she was severely beaten by her mother. However, on that note, when the beating was done, my grandmother hugged her and cried her eyes out then explaining to her that they could no longer afford to feed her. She had her sent away at such a young age to care for the familys little ones so that she could eat and get just the basic necessities to survive. It was a huge shock and hardship to my mom and grandparents, something they never experienced before. Imagine it getting to the point that you have to send your child away like that at such a young age and the drastic change. Its one thing to go from nothing to have everything but different to have everything and go to nothing. Yes... This is definitely Joy Luck Club part 2.... :-/
