I normally dont post, because most of you couldnt care less about what I had for dinner or that I hit my thumb with a hammer. I wouldnt bore you with that anyway. But I have a pet peeve, and Im slapped in the face with it countless times on a daily basis. The term African American is used to refer to Black people. I love Blacks as I do Whites, Hispanics, Orientals, Polynesians, or any other subgroup, but it grates on my nerves to hear that title used when referring to Blacks. Not all Blacks are African. Blacks include people from Haiti, Fiji, Brazil and other parts of South America, Australia (Aborigines), India and Pakistan, and other countries in the Middle East. Im sure I have overlooked a few countries. My point is, not all Blacks come from Africa. So, when I hear Politically Correct individuals say African American, when referring to Blacks, I have to wonder how many races/nationalities may take offense to the term. After all, many nationalities within the Hispanic group readily take offense if they are wrongly classified, such as Guatemalans being called Mexican and vice versa. So why cant we refer to groups by what they are and no one take offense? We are what we are. We are all Americans. End of rant, thanks.
